Dr Stuart Shanker
In a distinguished career in philosophy and psychology spanning over three decades, Stuart Shanker (D.Phil) has always been guided by three fundamental principles:
There is no such thing as a bad, lazy, or stupid child, although they can easily be turned into such
There is no such thing as a child – or adult – who can’t learn new ways to self-regulate in a manner that promotes rather than constricts growth
There is no such thing as a “fixed outcome”: trajectories can always be changed, at any point in the lifespan, if only we have the right knowledge and tools.
These three principles are based on a revolution taking place in the life sciences: principally, neuroscience, physiology, psychology, and clinical theory. The result is Shanker Self-Reg®: a powerful method for managing stress in a manner that enhances growth and resilience in all ages.
Dr. Shanker is the celebrated author of Calm, Alert & Learning: Classroom Strategies for Self-Regulation, Self-Reg: How to Help Your Child (And You) Break the Stress Cycle and Successfully Engage with Life, and most recently Reframed: Self-Reg For A Just Society. These best-selling works have been published in over a dozen languages.
Dr. Shanker is the founder and CEO of The MEHRIT Centre. Thousands of parents and educators from across Canada have enrolled in the online courses or joined in discussion groups run by TMC. Self-Reg Global has now been created to meet the demand to establish similar Self-Reg initiatives in the international community.
The goal of Self-Reg Global is to provide parents and educators around the world with the tools needed to raise healthy and vibrant children; and to provide adults and seniors with a powerful method for enhancing their own well being.
In this challenging time in which we are living, Self-Reg inspires what is most desperately needed: a profound sense of hope for the future.
Now working in multiple roles at The MEHRIT Centre and Self-Reg Global, Adam began his career as a research scientist. Adam has worked on numerous research projects for the MEHRIT Centre aimed at bringing Self-Reg to the community in new and exciting ways and now Adam aims to bring that passion for R&D to aid Self-Reg Global's mission to potentiate the potential of every child, every human being.
